Faith can move mountains

Faith is the “external elixir” which gives life, power, and action to the impulse of thought!

– Napoleon Hill (Think & Grow Rich)

In the book Think & Grow Rich Napoleon Hills gives us his self-confidence mantra. We’re not talking about religious faith here, but rather about how we can “naturally” develop the conviction to be effective in life, here are the six phrases to build our trust and faith, we have to talk these to ourselves every day:

1. Faith Develops by Being Persistent

faith can move mountain-being persistent like an ant

I know that I have the ability to achieve the object of my Definite Purpose in life, therefore, I demand of myself persistent, continuous action toward its attainment, and I here and now promise to render such action.

2. Dominating Thoughts

I realize the dominating ideas of my mind will ultimately replicate themselves in outward, physical action, and constantly transform themselves into a physical reality, therefore, I will focus my thoughts for thirty minutes regularly, upon the task of thinking of the person I aim to become, through forming in my mind a clear mental portrait of that person.

3. Auto-suggestion

I know through the principle of auto-suggestion, any desire that I persistently hold in my mind will eventually seek expression through some practical means of attaining the object back of it, therefore, I will devote ten minutes daily to demanding of myself the development of self-confidence.

4. Faith Defines Your Chief Aim in Life

I have clearly written down a description of my definite chief aim in life, and I will never stop trying until I shall have developed sufficient self-confidence for its attainment.

5. Truth & Justice

I also understand that no money or place will last long until it is founded on honesty and justice, and I do not partake in any trade that does not support anyone it involves. I should excel in drawing the powers I want to use to myself, and other people’s cooperation. Because of my desire to serve others, I will inspire others to serve me. By cultivating a passion for all people, I can eradicate hatred, resentment, greed, selfishness, and negativity, because I know that a pessimistic mindset towards others will never bring me happiness. I’m trying to make people believe in me and I’m going to believe in them, and in myself.

This formula is like a reminder or a recipe to grow the faith of YOU within YOU.

Often, for good or bad motives, we believe in ourselves. But here I particularly like that Napolean has not tried to say that one religion is better than another. I suppose this is our own affair.

Faith ought to be relevant to both the religious and the atheists, or whatever you believe. It’s all about ourselves, what’s lying deep inside us.
