What will happen after May 3, will the lock down be removed partially or completely is the question we all have? Positive Shades suggest not to lift complete restriction considering the rising number of cases and causalities in India.

Prime Minister Modi suggested during his interaction with chief ministers via a video conference on April 27 that the lockdown would continue in the country’s hotspot areas even after May 3rd, the last day of Lockdown 2.0 News sources, however, say areas falling under non-hotspot areas may see lockdown restrictions lighten.

Based on recommendations revealed earlier in April by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), every district in the nation were listed as hotspots and non-hotspots based on whether or not verified cases of COVID-19 were registered there. However, what are these hotspots and non-hotspot? Mainly defined in news reports, what are the ‘red’, ‘orange’, and ‘green’ zones?

Green Zones (Non-infected): Positively most of the Indian districts fall under this category, these are the districts that have not reported any COVID-19 case yet.

Non-infected, hotspots and non-hotspots districts are described interchangeably as ‘red’, ‘orange’ and ‘green’ zones as well.

Red zones(HotSpots): These are regions that record significant numbers or rapid levels of infection cases, such as Pune and Mumbai in Maharashtra, New Delhi, or Indore in Madhya Pradesh. There have been 170 red zones in the country on April 15. It included 123 districts with significant outbreaks and 47 cluster hotspot districts. Below are the inclusion parameters:

  • Maximum case-load districts adding to more than 80 percent of patients in India, or
  • Top case-load districts contributing to more than 80 percent of patients for each state in the country, or
  • Districts with a doubling rate of less thank equal to four days (calculated by the state government each Monday for the last seven days).

Orange zones(Non-HotSpot): Regions that do not have ample confirmed cases to hit the ‘red zone’ but are suspected hotspots are part of this zone. On April 15 the country with clusters had 207 non-hotspot districts. A hotspot may be classified as a non-hotspot region if for 14 consecutive days no new confirmed case is recorded.

Furthermore, if no new confirmed case is identified for 14 consecutive days a non-hotspot area will become a ‘green zone.’ Thus, if no new cases are identified for 28 consecutive days a ‘red zone’ will theoretically become a ‘green zone.’

“Containment operation would be deemed over when there is no case reported in 28 days from an area after the last case tests negative.” said MHA in a press statement.
