Besan (Gram Flour) Uttapam is a healthy and quick recipe. Kids as well as adults both enjoy it well. You can either serve in breakfast or prepare in the evening to satisfy the “Shaam ki Choti Bhook”.

Besan found in almost all Indian kitchens, there are many items that you can make from besan but Pakodas are the most famous and known. Besan helps in controlling your sugar level and good for the heart. It helps in skin tightening and many us make a wonderful facial pack using besan and curd. It has protein and due to insoluble fiber, it helps in easy digestion and relieves constipation. 

Vegetables(carrots and tomatoes) added in it are rich in vitamins and minerals which keep you healthy. Tomatoes are a good source of A, C, K, and potassium. It is also a great source of healthy fiber.  

Kids always show a tantrum in eating vegetables. But adding like this will help you feeding them a variety of vegetables.

Ingredients

  • Bean – 1 Cup
  • Curd – 1/2 Cup
  • Onion – 1 medium size
  • Carrots – 1-2 grated
  • Tomato – 1
  • Ghee/Butter – 1 Tablespoon
  • Baking Powder – 1/4 Teaspoon

Preparation Steps for Besan Uttpam

  • Add 1 cup besan in a bowl and mix 1/2 cup of curd.
  • Mix them well so that no lumps left and the consistency of the mixture should not be thin. 
  • Add 1/4 teaspoon baking powder and let the mixture sit for 15-20 min. 
  • Chop the vegetables finely(you can add more or change the vegetables according to availability and likings) and keep it aside.
  • Now, heat a pan and spread butter or ghee.
  • Add water to the batter if needed to achieve the desired consistency. 
  • Spread the fermented batter of besan over the pan and let it spread on its own. 
  • Evenly spread the chopped vegetables over the besan uttapam and press to get a smooth texture on top. 
  • Cover the lid to cook nicely. Flip the uttapam and cook both sides.
